G DATA VPN enables you to send and encrypt data transferred over your Internet connection via user selectable servers. G DATA VPN is available for Windows, Android, and iOS. Unless indicated otherwise in the heading of the sections below, the information contained there is applicable to all versions of G DATA VPN.

Use of VPN

If the “VPN” module is activated, G DATA VPN establishes an encrypted connection to a secure Internet gateway of our technology partner (subcontractor). At this time, the hash value of your IP address is recorded. All data that is transmitted and received is then sent via this secure tunnel. Your Internet activity is not monitored or stored. The only information collected is the time a user has spent on the subcontractor’s network and the total amount of data transmitted in bytes for the purpose of providing and scaling services to meet customer requirements. If a connection to the secure Internet gateway cannot be established, G DATA VPN will connect to our license servers in order to verify your license. At this time, we process your IP address and information provided during registration in order to verify your license status.  The aforementioned data is processed in order to fulfill our contract with you for the use of G DATA VPN.

Registration (Windows)

You can use the free trial version of G DATA VPN for a limited period of time. To activate your trial, please enter your name and e-mail address when registering. If you purchase a license and activate it, we will link this information to your registration number. We use this data to activate your license and ensure you have the appropriate license for our application. This data is processed in order to fulfill our contract with you for the use of G DATA VPN.

App Registration/In-app Purchases (VPN for Android)

If you opt to purchase a license for G DATA VPN, you will be asked to provide your contact address (e-mail address) during the registration process. In addition, we also transmit unique identifiers such as a random ID and the device name. We use this data to activate your license and ensure you have the appropriate license for our application. If you acquire a license via in-app purchase, we will be notified by Google that the transaction has been completed. This information is processed in order to fulfill our contract with you for the use of G DATA VPN.

In the case of a trial license, you will only be asked to provide your e-mail address.

App Registration/In-app Purchases (iOS)

If you opt to purchase a license for G DATA VPN, you will be asked to provide your contact address (e-mail address) when registering in order to register your license. In addition, we also transmit unique identifiers such as a random ID and the device name. We use this data to activate your license and ensure you have the appropriate license for our application. If you acquire a license via in-app purchase, we will be notified by Apple that the transaction has been completed. This information is processed in order to fulfill our contract with you for the use of G DATA VPN.

In the case of a trial license, you will only be asked to provide your e-mail address.

Updates (Windows)

G DATA VPN performs regular program updates. At this time, we process your IP address and information provided during registration in order to verify your license status. This data is processed in order to fulfill our contract with you for the use of G DATA VPN.

Withdrawal of Consent 

If your data is processed based on your consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. You can do this, for example, by sending an e-mail to our contact address listed below.

Your Rights as a Data Subject

Please note: You have the right to request information at any time from G DATA CyberDefense AG regarding personal data relating to you that we have stored (Article  15 of the GDPR). You are also entitled to request information regarding the recipients or categories of recipients with whom this data is shared as well as the purpose and duration of storage. 

Rectification, Erasure, Restriction of Processing

You also have the right to demand the rectification (as stipulated in Article 16 of the GDPR), erasure (as stipulated in Article 17 of the GDPR), or the restriction (as stipulated in Article  18 of the GDPR) of the processing of your personal data.

Data Portability

Furthermore, as stipulated in Article 20 of the GDPR, you can request the transmission of your personal data at any time.

Right to Object to Processing

In the event of the processing of personal data for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest (Article  6(1)(e) of the GDPR) or for the purposes of legitimate interests (Article  6(1)(f) of the GDPR), you can object to the processing of your personal data at any time with future effect. In the event of an objection, we must refrain from all further processing of your data for the aforementioned purposes, unless

•    there are compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or

•    the processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

As stipulated in Article  21(1) of the GDPR, data subjects have the right to object to data processing on grounds relating to their personal situation.
