How to remove G DATA Business

This article will help you to remove the different components of your G DATA Business solution.

G DATA Business solutions consist of distinct, yet separate components.

Each has to be removed individually.

These components are:

- G DATA ManagementServer.

(Note that the Graphical User Interface of the program called G DATA Administrator is installed and uninstalled automatically by the ManagementServer, however it can also be installed as a separate component. If it has been installed separately, it has to be removed separately from the Windows Programs & Features.)

- Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express. This is the default SQL server installed by the ManagementServer if the option "install a new SQL server" is selected during the installation process. The SQL server is *not* removed by uninstalling the ManagementServer.

- G DATA Security Client for Windows. The antvirus client software is installed individually on each client PC and can also be installed on the same server as the ManagementServer to provide protection to it. In this scenario, removing the ManagementServer program does not remove the Security Client program from the server.

- G DATA Security Client for Linux.

- G DATA Security Client for Android.

- G DATA Security Client for iOS.

- G DATA MailSecurity. The MailSecurity package (either the MailSecurity Gateway or the MailSecurity plugin for Exchange) consists of independent programs and also have to be removed individually.

A. How to remove the G DATA ManagementServer

Step 1.
Go to Control Panel > Programs

Step 2.
Uninstall G DATA ManagementServer.

Alternatively, start setup.exe in the following folder of the server: %ProgramData%\G DATA\Server

Step 3. If you are not planning on reinstalling the server afterwards, check Delete database. Now click Next.

Step 4. Confirm that you want to install the server by clicking Yes.

Step 5. Wait until the server is uninstalled.

Step 6. Click Exit, the machine will then be restarted.

Additional alternatives:

- If setup.exe is no longer present on the system, you can use the original setup.exe located in the installer package of the software to uninstall the ManagementServer.

Click here to download the latest installer package

Extract setup.exe from the following sub-folder of the install package: \Setup\ManagementServer.

- setup.exe can also be launched from a command prompt if needed. In that case, use the command /§InstallMode="Uninstall" to start the removal process. Furthermore, you can use the command /§_QuietInstallation="true" to start the process in the background, without the need to load the graphical components.

e.g.: %ProgramData%\G DATA\Server\setup.exe /§_QuietInstallation="true" /§InstallMode="Uninstall"

Software removal tool (AVCleaner):

AVCleaner is a removal tool which allows to remove all traces of G DATA from the system.

Before a reinstallation of the product, we recommend to run AVCleaner to make sure that all components were completely deleted during the standard removal process. It is possible to completely remove the product with AVCleaner without going through the standard removal process, however it is not recommended as it requires several reboots of the system, and may in some cases need to be done in Safe Mode.

Furthermore, AVCleaner will remove both the client and the server components, so if both are installed on the same computer and you only wish to remove one of them, do not use AVCleaner.

Once you have launched AVCleaner, it will display a list of items. Click "Select all" then "Delete". Now reboot the computer and repeat the same process once more. There should be no remnants of G DATA left on the system.

B. How to remove SQL Server 2014 Express

Step 1.
Go to Control Panel > Programs

Step 2.
Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and every related component.

For some components, you will have to go through the uninstall wizard of the SQL server.

C. How to remove the G DATA Security Client for Windows

If the ManagementServer is still installed, open the G DATA Administrator and go to Clients > Overview, then select the client you wish to uninstall.

Right click on it and choose "Uninstall G DATA Security Client..."

Choose whether to keep or not the jobs, reports, messages and backup archives of the client. Now click OK.

The client will be uninstalled the next time it connects to the server.

This delay depends on the synchronization time for clients, which can be configured from the following panel of G DATA Administrator: ManagementServer > General Settings > Synchronization.

Alternatively, you can restart the service "G DATA Security Client" locally on the client machine to force an immediate synchronization.

If a remote uninstallation is not possible, you can remove the client locally as well. Proceed as follows:

Step 1. On the client, start setup.exe in the following folder: %ProgramData%\G DATA\client

Step 2. Click Uninstallation.

Step 3. Confirm that you want to uninstall the client by clicking Yes.

Step 4. Wait until the client is uninstalled.

Step 5. Click Exit, the machine will then be restarted.

Additional alternatives:

- If setup.exe is no longer present on the system, you can use the original setup.exe located in the installer package of the software to uninstall the Security Client.

Click here to download the latest installer package

Extract setup.exe from the following sub-folder of the install package: \Setup\SecurityClient.

- setup.exe can also be launched from a command prompt if needed. In that case, use the command /§InstallMode="Uninstall" to start the removal process. Furthermore, you can use the command /§_QuietInstallation="true" to start the process in the background, without the need to load the graphical components.

e.g.: %ProgramData%\G DATA\client\setup.exe /§_QuietInstallation="true" /§InstallMode="Uninstall"

Software removal tool (AVCleaner)

AVCleaner is a tool allowing to remove all traces of G DATA from the system.

If you just removed the client and wish to reinstall it, we recommend to run AVCleaner to make sure that no remnants of the old client are left.

AVCleaner could be used to remove the whole client without going through the standard removal process, however we do not recommend to do this as it requires several reboots of the computer and may need to be done in Safe Mode.

Keep in mind that it will remove both the client and sever components, so if you have both installed on the same computer and only wish to remove one of them, do not run AVCleaner.

Run AVCleaner, it will display a list of items.

Click "Select all" then "Delete".

Reboot the PC and repeat the process once more.

All traces of G DATA should now have been removed.

D. How to remove the G DATA Security Client for Linux

On the Linux client, go to /usr/sbin/ and run the uninstall script "gdata_uninstall.sh".

E. How to remove the G DATA Security Client for Android

On the Android device, go to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and disable Internet Security.
